Subscription Overview

Birchbox:  $10/mo for 4-5 beauty related samples.  For each item you leave feedback on you get 10 points to use in their online store.  100 points can be redeemed for $10 off, 200 points for $20 and so on.  The sample sizes do seem to be slowly shrinking, however that point system can't be beat.  The items tend to range price wise from medium to high.

Ipsy: $10/mo for 4-5 full and deluxe size beauty related samples, plus a cute new makeup bag each month.  This subscription seems to be improving more and more.  They offer a mix of medium/high price range brands like TheBalm and Josie Maran as well as quality affordable brands such as NYX.

Starlooks: $15/mo plus shipping (about $3) for 3-4 full size Starlooks brand products.  This is a really fun subscription and is perfect for those looking to build up a sizable make up collection and try new colors.

Julep: $20/mo for your choice of a selection of boxes with an option to skip each month.  They contain either 3 nail polishes, 2 polishes and 1 beauty product or 2 beauty products.  The polishes are half the size of a normal bottle, but the quality is nice.  The beauty products seem to be a bit hit and miss lately.  They offer a lot of epic sales and mystery boxes so it is easy for your budget to take a hit with them.  The first box is typically free, the current code I believe is FREEBOX.  Yes, that's a real thing.  They find other ways to part you from your money.

Update Fall 2013:  I am no longer subscribed to Julep with the apparently unrealistic hope of saving money.  It turns out you can still purchase fantastic sets and mystery boxes.  You just have to pay a little more =)  Resistance is futile.

Stylemint: $29.99/mo Tee shirts!  Made in the USA and good quality.  They can be a bit pricey at $29.99/ea and up, however they do have the option to skip each month between the 1st and the 5th.  They also have seasonal mystery bags for $35 containing 3 items.  On occasion they have 20-25% discount codes available for full priced items, and there is also often a sale section with a decent variety.  I guess they also have a point system.  I just found out.  After a year.  And I still don't have enough for a free credit, so don't let it sway you.

Popsugar Must Have:  $40 plus tax.  This is a lifestyle box that sends a mix of food, beauty fashion and other things like books, movie tickets, workout DVD's...  A very interesting concept if a bit pricey.

Turntable Kitchen: $25/mo plus tax for a food and music pairing box.  The boxes include a 7" vinyl record, a digital mix tape, 3 exclusive recipe cards and 1-2 sample sizes of unusual ingredients called out in the cards.  This subscription certainly isn't going to be for everyone but DUDE.  I cooked a CHICKEN.  Whole!  For the first time ever!  And I had company over for surprisingly delicious soup.  No one died and I even had something to talk to them about that wasn't make up (Music!).
